Yes, it's Kim Kardashian. She's been all over the blogosphere and celebrity news with the whole PETA deal and the butt groping; and looking good, too. You know who she is right? Amazing? Yes. WARNING: One NSFW picture

Kim Kardashian: celebrity, hottie, and the center of gossip and rumors. It’s only been 2 days since I’ve started following Kimmy in the news and wow there’s a lot going on. Well known for reality TV, sex tapes, and her curvaceous body, I’m pretty sure the whole world knows about her. Am I right or am I just totally right? I mean let me ask you this: do you know who Kim Kardashian is?

Already I’ve seen two tidbits on Kim Kardashian. PETA got on her case about a picture that she tweeted of herself holding a baby kitten by the scruff. In a statement, PETA said “Kim Kardashian isn’t the only person who mistakenly thinks that because a mother cat picks up her kittens by the scruff of the neck that a supportive hand under the rump isn’t needed.” Wait a second PETA, do you even comprehend what you just said? If a mother picks up her kittens by the scruff of the neck and nature made it this way, why can’t humans pick kittens up by the scruff? You never see mother cats put a “supportive hand” under the rump do you? After all cats don’t have hands. Kim K’s response? She said that the kitty wasn’t hurt and I side with her on that one. It’s a pretty hot picture, too. Take a look.

Shall we go on? What about what happened in Australia? Kimmy K got groped in the butt. It turns out that she has a pretty dang “juicy” butt. Alright. As if we didn’t know that just by looking at it. I think it’s real and boy it looks good. Pictures to follow. That’s pretty much all I have to say on this topic.

FINIS.

Come on in and check out America's best idea for preserving wilderness.

It’s all over the Internet, news, and billboards. I’m going to tell you right now: it’s the latest buzz! The new documentary series by Ken Burns is online and on DVD, available for your purchase. I highly recommend that you watch it. It’s a pretty long series, so PBS has it on their website in a couple of parts. Sit back on a comfy couch, grab your favorite snackies, and have a look at the history behind The National Parks. Without spoiling anything for you, I’ll tell you that it’s an accurate historical video about the founding of the National Park system, split into time frames. You’ll learn a lot about the people who influenced the preservation of America’s wilderness. The link for the videos are below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I've talked about Flock a couple of times in my blog now. Don't worry, this isn't the last time you'll be hearing about it. It's an awesome browser and I will personally vouch for it all the way. If you've never heard of it, take the time to read this post. I'm telling you, it's well worth your while. Happy surfing!

I’ve already blogged about Flock several times over a time of a couple of months. Here is one of the posts that I did about it. Lookie here. I’m about to blog about Flock all over again. Hopefully you’ve either used it or have heard about it. It’s spreading across the Internet, although it seems like Firefox is still winning out against Flock. Let’s get started, for those of you who don’t know what Flock is.

Flock is a browser, very much like Firefox. As a matter of fact, it’s based off Mozilla, meaning that most of those popular add-ons you love so much on Firefox will fit right in with Flock. The main difference between Firefox and Flock is that Flock is a Social Web Browser. What’s that mean? It connects you with all of your social networks simultaneously, so you can stay up-to-date with them while you surf. You can connect and interact with people on Digg, YouTube, Twitter, Myspace, Flickr, and Facebook in your sidebar. What else? You can view RSS feeds and something called a “media stream” with ease. Need to check mail? Just click the mail icon. All of Firefox’s features are there, so if you’re currently using Firefox, the switch over to Flock will be painless and oh-so beautiful. It’s essentially a revamped Firefox with social features. Need to save something and “clip” the web? Just drag and drop text, links, and images that will save for use when you really need them. Oh, and just so you know, you can even BLOG straight from the Flock browser. That means you can blog whenever you feel like it. When you see something interesting that you want to shout about, just click the button and you’re instantly blogging away. I’m blogging from Flock right now. This lets me visit the Flock website, view flock’s toolbar, and surf the web, all while blogging. Handy! You can say that a couple of times more, too.

I’ve been using Flock for a while now and I still find it very useful. With a couple of add-ons, Flock is unstoppable and hands down the winner in my ever-evolving browser war.

Don’t even hesitate! Just go ahead and download it already! Just click here for Flock or click the flock icon below and don’t say I didn’t warn you: You’re about to experience the WEB.

This is a followup post to my previous post, where I embedded a Hulu video of the TV show Dollhouse, where they talk about Earth Day. I decided that after talking about a selected few networks, I need to take a look at a couple more. Here are some resources from respected networks, news stations, and newsmakers. Let’s have a look, shall we? Feel free to leave more resources in the comments below. It’d be greatly appreciated.

1) National Geographic: National Geographic segments are perhaps among one of the most trusted sources. Since 1888, it has been making tremendous contributions to support research projects and great scientific work. National Geographic has published creative magazines, videos, and has a great website. With so many resources, you can’t neglect their online presence. First, the environment section of their site has video and news and their Green Guide is the #1 resource, in my books, for everything green.

2) NBC: This massive television network, with hit shows like Chuck, Heroes, 30 Rock, Life, The Office, and much more, are trying to help you go green. They’ve introduced a new “green” section on their website, and have launched a campaign, with the slogan “Green Your Routine” and “The More You Know”. Well put. Their ads can be seen on Hulu. With tips for greening your food choices, work environment, and home, it’s a great resource.

3) Discovery: I’m pretty sure you know about this network already, with popular programming taking the nation by storm. This is the network that bought TreeHugger, one of the best sources out there for news about sustainability. I won’t be including TreeHugger as an individual source, but know that it is one of the best. If you’re not familiar with it, start getting familiar with it, and fast. Discovery’s Planet Green is a great resource, with information on Fashion and Beauty, Food and Health, Home and Garden, Tech and Transport, Travel and Outfoors, and Work and Connect. Excellent site.

4) CBS: I couldn’t find much, and I couldn’t find the CBS green page. I wish they followed the example of NBC and had one of those pages. I did, however, find a splash page for CBS Green Radio. It’s coming. At least that’s what it says. Looking forward to it.

5) HGTV: Want to learn about living green and building green? HGTV is the best resource for that. With green building techniques and ideas, you can never go wrong by visiting their site. Make sure you check out their Green Home virtual tour. It’s pretty awesome. Enjoy.

6) PBS: Growing up, I watched a lot of video segments from PBS and Nationa Geographic. They are great educational sites. Perfect place to learn. What better place to make kids environmentally aware than through media from PBS? Here is a series that PBS showed: It’s called Building Green TV. Good stuff.

7) Huffington Post: They have a great green webpage. Excellent place for green news and opinions. Also check them out on twitter, @huffingtonpost .

It seems like it’s been over for a while, but it really hasn’t. Twitter’s green community has been hard at work bringing the latest news and trends to the public. The hashtag #ecoMonday is slowly becoming a huge hit. Even large media networks are starting to catch on to this “green fever”, as I’d propose to call it.

Media and Green: DisneyNature released “Earth” on Earth Day and they have made an announcement to release “Oceans” in the year 2010′s Earth Day. The NBC news network has advertisements all over the Internet and the television and have launched the “Green your routine”, with this website. Hulu has a whole bunch of awesome video series that they’ve launched. Go check it out! I’ve embedded a video segment from Hulu from the TV show Dollhouse that talks green. Is that what you think? Let’s hear it in the comments.

I’ve updated a few things on my blog. It’s been a while since I’ve actually posted on my blog using the native WordPress editor. Usually, I post using Windows Live Writer because it has better support for embedding picture and video. However, I’ve added the Zemanta Firefox plugin that allows for easy linking to popular articles. All the links that you’re seeing right now are a direct result of automatic link sensing. Blogging and linking has never been this easy. Pictures are also a breeze. If you use Flock, Firefox, or any browser that is based off Mozilla and blog with a whole list of services such as WordPress, Blogger, Typepad, and a whole lot of other services, this is a must see! No joke. Sorry you can’t see this in action. It only shows up on my administrator back end, but it is amazing. It’s linking, picture, and tagging all in one. AUTOMATICALLY! No manual typing needed at all. It also adds the “REBLOG” button that you see at the very end of this post. Let’s move on to something that you can see now.

Lijit! You probably see it right now, located to the right of this blog post. Pretty self-explanatory. It makes a search for everything that you own. That included social networks and your blog. If your users want to search for a topic that you talked about, all they have to do is enter in the search term and they’ll automatically search all of your sources, but only the ones that you want to be included. Hope you guys enjoy the new additions.

In time for Earth Day 2009! That’s what I like to hear. I know I’ve been hammering out all these environmental posts, but that’s because these issues are near and dear to my heart and rightfully so. They should be near and dear to you too because you inhabit Earth. Since we take so much from where we live, we should respect it and try to do some good. Give back, or at least make changes in your lifestyle to lessen your impact on our wonderful home. Let’s go through a bunch of environmentally aware groups. I don’t claim to know exactly what these groups do, but I am familiar with a few of them. Feel free to donate to these groups or get involved. I don’t make much money and I am a college student, but when I’m feeling generous I like to get involved with either conservation issues, wildlife, and environmental issues. I’m planning on attending FOE’s Green Ball, so holla if anyone else out there is planning to attend! One note before you continue, I’m from the US and some of these groups are only based in the US, but I’ll do my best to talk about other groups as well. Onto business then! I highly encourage you all to check out these groups:

1) US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): The EPA employs a highly trained and educated workforce, with dozens of offices and laboratories across the country. The EPA is the nation’s leading source for research, environmental science, enforcement, assessment, and education force. It’s main goal is to create “cleaner, healthier environment for the American people”. We’d better be thankful for them. Thanks!

2) The Sierra Club: Founded in 1892 by John Muir, America’s most renowned naturalist and conservationist. Since then, the Sierra club has been around, offering smart energy solutions, holding conferences, and working endlessly to protect the wild places, wild things, and our planet Earth. They are actively involved in the current situation with energy alternatives and carbon emissions. Recently, the Sierra Club launched this site, a great resource for those of us at home. It’ll help you with a greener lifestyle. Definitely a plus.

3) Friends of the Earth (FOE): An environmental group that rallies and fights for a “healthy and just world.” That, in the least number of words possible, is their goal. Their campaigns are focused on issues such as pollution, deforestation, whaling, and human rights. It’s an amazing group, so give them a visit. They also sponsor the FOE Green Ball, which I’m planning to attend.

4) Environmental Working Group: The mission of the Environmental Working Group is to “use the power of public information to protect public health and the environment.” It was founded by Ken Cook and Richard Wiles in 1993 and aims to protect the most vulnerable stage of human development (babies, children, and infants) from toxic pollutants. The EWG does this through research and advocacy.

5) Carbon Fund: It’s leading the fight against global warming but providing information about reducing carbon emissions. This site empowers individuals and businesses, helping them transform through climate change education, public outreach, and carbon offsets and reductions. Their slogan is “Reduce what you can. Offset what you can’t.” Let them help you reduce your carbon footprint to almost nothing. One step at a time.

6) PEW Environmental Group: Pew studies, researches, and promotes nonpartisan ways for pressing problems that face the planet. Not only do they deal in areas such as global warming, protecting ocean life, and wilderness protection, but they are also involved in economic policy, health, and education. One of their main goals is for provide knowledge for informed choices.

There are a whole bunch of organizations out there, ranging from organizations that focus on specific ecosystems to organizations that reach out to save all ecosystems and make an impact on the globe. I applaud all of these organizations. To take a look at more organizations, click here for the Wikipedia List. I personally support a few of the above mentioned organizations in terms of monetary donations, but there are definitely more ways to get involved. I strongly encourage you to do something for Earth Day and sign up for newsletters, volunteer, or read up on something. You won’t regret it. That’s all for now. I’ll be posting more on environmental issues and the like within the next couple of days. Remember, Earth Day is just around the corner. Go out and have fun with your family, friends, or significant other. Enjoy our planet and advocate conservation! Cheers!

April is the month. I feel like I’ve said that way too many times. Either way, let’s just briefly go over some issues you should think about while Earth Day approaches, so you can enjoy the Earth Day festivities in peace. I’d like to keep this brief, so here goes:

1) Deforestation: An important issue. Some major causes are urban sprawl, deforestation for lumber, population growth, and land usage issue. Loss of forests means loss of habitat for wildlife as well as an increase in carbon dioxide levels. Go figure.

2) Global Warming (Greenhouse gases & ozone depletion): Greenhouse gases wreaks havoc with the ozone layer, causing what is known as global warming. Judging by all the public outcry and public service announcements related to global warming, you all probably know a whole bunch about it.

3) Habitat loss (fragmentation): This pertains to loss of habitat and fragmentation, leading to loss of large pieces of a habitat type. This impacts the fauna of the ecosystem, which is also linked to other habitats. Ecosystems are very complex and an impact in one location may have unintended effects in another.

4) Environmental pollution (air, water, land): Pollution is a big problem. Some problem areas include heavy industrial areas and places like Los Angeles in California. Air pollution causes smog, prompting Spare the Air days. Water pollution is another problem. There are always cases of oil spills and industrial waste spills. What can solve these problems? It’s up to us to find out.

5) Energy & Alternative Fuels: The energy aspect of things. We’re focusing now, as a society, on finding ways to find greener alternatives to fossil fuels. Biodiesel, solar power, and hydrogen power are still under development, but the advances in greener energy seem promising.

6) Biodiversity: Negative impacts on the Earth’s environment and ecosystems will most likely have adverse effects on the flora and fauna of certain regions. Human intervention and involvement can also lead to a decrease in population sizes as well as a decrease in biodiversity of a given area. To keep biodiversity, habitat must be preserved in its entirety.

7) Nuclear energy and waste: We’ve all heard talk about nuclear reactors and the waste that it generates. The risks of nuclear energy include proliferation risks, risks of accidents, and of course environmental degradation. Some radioactive isotopes are long-lived. The question still remains about how to effectively and efficiently get rid of the waste.

8 ) Genetic pollution and GMOs: There are still huge disputes about the safety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the debates are still raging. Although there are no known adverse reactions, the argument is that we don’t know how long it will take before the human species begins to show symptoms and encounter problems. Will the genetically modified organisms taint the rest of the species?

9) Urban Sprawl: A big problem, because urban sprawl leads to many of the above mentioned problems, including habitat fragmentation, habitat loss, and loss of biodiversity. You see, many of these issues are interconnected. To fix one issue, you might have to address and “fix” a multitude of other issues.

10) Sustainability and resource depletion: Here is a major one. We have to be sustainable and aware of our levels of consumption. There are limited non-renewable resources on the planet and once they are taken, that will be the the end all. Exploiting natural resources is often done in a very unsustainable way, causing problems that could threaten human existence. Some examples are over-logging, over-mining, and overfishing.

11) Population growth: Many people argue that this is the root of all our problems. We have fixed resources and fixed space on Earth. Sure we talk about leaving Earth and settling in colonies on Mars or the Moon, but realistically we are still a long way from that. Since we’re humans, we find ways to adapt, which has caused our populations to skyrocket.

12) Waste disposal (e-waste, liter, marine debris, landfills, incineration): This is a problem. What do we do with everything that can’t be recycled? We throw them all in landfills. We’re getting better with rubber tires because we used to burn them, emitting tons of carbon dioxide. I’m not saying we don’t still do it, but we’re doing less of it than we used to. Marine debris and littering are also problems that need to be addressed.

13) Recycling, Reusing, Reducing and education: Perhaps the most important thing that must be done is to teach reusing, reducing, and recycling. The 3 R’s should be a part of our daily lives and engrained in our heads. The younger generations must understand that this planet is their home and it will be up to them to find ways to fix all the wrongs committed.

Anyway, I was sitting on the couch this morning, sipping on an excellent cup of coffee and watching the news. Guess what was on? Yes, stunning shots of lights all over the world being turned OFF. That one hour made a difference. Maybe it wasn’t a major difference, granted, but a difference nonetheless. It’s more about the symbolism: that millions of people around the world have pledges to support a single cause. My only hope is that more and more people will learn about it and be a part of this wonderful event. It could also use a little more “umph” as well. What do I mean by that? Well, why not, as I mentioned in my previous post, turn off other unnecessary items as well for just an hour? An hour without electricity can’t be that bad can it? No, I don’t think so. After all, it can be a pretty fun experience right? Grab a couple of friends and have a party. Anyway, here are a few videos from the events and then I’ll get into a discussion I had with my dad while watching these amazing videos. Enjoy!

Alright, let’s get back to our little discussion. I’ve already talked about Earth Hour and what my hopes for it in the future are. If nothing changes, I still stand by it because it’s a great event to promote awareness for the world’s problems. Sooner or later, we’ll have to come face to face with them and every person will have to take extra steps then. Why not try and make a statement about it now? Back to the discussion I had with my dad this morning. It’s good to get the viewpoint of someone from a different age group. In this case, from a different generation. This is his argument: there is a lot of focus now on finding renewable energy sources, so it’s not as big as a problem as it was when he was in China. He also said that the problem today is that we, as a society don’t encourage proper disposal and recycling as well as conservation of resources as much as he did when he was a child. He remembers having to bring in old toothpaste tubes and toothbrushes in order to purchase new ones. In this way, there is little waste and everything is maintained so that they will last for longer periods of time. Why? Because almost everyone lived in poverty. His argument is that environmentalism can be attained, but at the expense of progress. If we are able to make everything “green” and if everybody, for example, started walking instead of driving, he argues that the automobile industry would have to lay off everyone and that would set off a whole bunch of chain reactions. Think about it. I did for a little while and it makes some sense. Just another viewpoint. Anyway, hope you all had a great Earth Hour! Looking forward to Earth Hour 2010. Who wants to host a huge party in San Francisco?

Another article from Discovery.com. Seems like there are an inreasing number of male fish out there around the world that are developing female traits. How? They are growing new sex organs and even producing eggs. It was thought that this was because chemicals that get into the water mimic the female hormone estrogen. However, new research has put the blame on chemicals that block the male hormones called androgens. These “anti-androgens” may be the key to why males may be turning into females. This new research has found that there are many of these chemicals in lakes and streams and that it might even affect human health. Seems like this might be a pretty big problem soon. Poor fishes. If it can happen to them it can also happen to us. Uh oh. Keep it tuned.
