Reptiles vs. Climate Change

Let’s talk reptiles. I read an article in, oh my favorite source of information and reasearch about animals: Discovery.com. Reptiles are commonly known by most as being cold-blooded and in need of a wole bunch of sunshine. However, with the changes in climate, scientists believe that reptiles might have a problem regulating their body temperature using air temperatures in a warmer world. Just so you guys know, we aren’t the only ones that will be affected. Everything on this planet will be impacted. We better start doing something NOW.

Australian and U.S scientists announced that the impact on reptiles will pretty much depend on how global warming impacts the habitat and the ability for reptiles to find shade from the sun and heat. Uh oh. Most animals are able to, over time adapt and shift their behavior in order to survive, but we’ll have to see, since reptiles are kind of a special case. If you’re normal, you’d think that the planet getting warmer might be better for him. Turns out that reptiles spend a lot of time trying to thermoregulate. If air temperatures are higher and the habitat where there is shade is altered, then reptiles would have to spend even more time trying to keep cool. Turns out keeping cool is more important that getting warm because it’s pretty easy for them to do that. Oh dang.

That means we should pay more attention to what the wheather is doing, what reptiles are doing, find ways to reduce what we’re doing to the planet and thus environments, and stop deforestation so reptiles can find shade. Like that will happen soon. We’ll see about that. For now, you just have to be aware.
