Another weapons post? Yes!
I’m in the midsts of shopping for a new knife and I was shopping around when I came around an interesting knife. However, I’ve just realized that I’ve already posted about it. It’s that cool Ninja Blowgun & Pocket Knife from Swords, Daggers, and Knives dot com. So let’s change tracks for a little bit and take a look at this cool thing I found. It’s Boeing’s Laser Avenger system that can now shoot down UAV’s. Back in October of 2007, Boeing conducted tests with a 1-kw laser mounted on the back of an anti-aircraft Humvee. What’s it do? Well, using a laser, the Avenger shoots a few centimeter wide beam that shot an invisible beam 29 times hotter than an electric stovetop. During the test, it pretty much burned holes through the casings of artillery and mortar rounds. That means it would detonate them instantly. Pretty cool huh? The tests described above were conducted in Alabama and only on stationary items. This new test conducted in New Mexico was aimed to shoot down aerial UAVs. According to Boeing:
“Small UAVs armed with explosives or equipped with surveillance sensors are a growing threat on the battlefield. Laser Avenger, unlike a conventional weapon, can fire its laser beam without creating missile exhaust or gun flashes that would reveal its position. As a result, Laser Avenger can neutralize these UAV threats while keeping our troops safe.”

During the test, the Avenger system tracked three UAVs flying against deserts and mountains and shot one of them down. Well it’s pretty cool that it worked. I guess it’s now the age of energy weapons. Hello Stargate, Star Trek, and Star Wars! I love those shows and therefore I think I’m going to love the future, although it might turn out to be more scary than not.
*//EDIT: Well, it seems like I left out something interesting! How could I? It’s an application for the iPhone or iPod Touch that attaches to a sniper rifle. What’s it do? It helps you shoot things with better accuracy and is called BulletFight, which costs $10. It can be mounted onto the M110 semi-automatic precision rifle, the KAC PDW, and the 14.5in SR16 rifle and uses the touch screen to tap in information about wind conditions, wind speed, ammunition type, distance to the intended target. Pretty cool huh? In essence, it helps gun users line up a good clean shot at the target. Well, enjoy!
