Endangered Species Directory

There is a new directory on About.com that related to animals. The Endangered Species Directory is a great tool for those of you who care about animals and want to see which animals are endangered. The list can be sorted by states and also by animal classification, such as mammals or reptiles. I gave the directory a shot and was impressed with the results. For example, I wanted to see what animals were listed as endangered in my state of California. Interesting enough, there are 130 endangered species in California alone! After selecting the state, a whole list of endangered species showed up. The list included common names and scientific names. I randomly selected the Northern Spotted Owl. I was then redirected to US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Environmental Conservation Online System. The site offered the date species was listed, general information, location, taxonomy, federal register documents, and more. Great site for research purposes or if you ever wondered about animals.

Here is the link for the more advanced, but less simple US Fish and Wildlife’s database search.
