New Year’s Eve Ball
Yes, it’s about that time of the year again. It’s where the beginning and the end of a year comes together. Who knew that this transition could be such an instant. If you think about it, where does the new and old really come together and blend, and does it? Doesn’t that mean for a finite instant you are straddling both 2008 and 2009? Anyway, we’re here to talk about the new New Year’s Eve Ball. The New Year’s Ball has been made over with some amazing technology and so far, from what I’ve seen, it’s definitely something to be proud of. It’s mesmerizing onscreen. I’ve been taking a look at Hulu’s live stream of the event and the ball is quite an accomplishment. I only wish that I could have been able to have a look at it in person. Maybe sometime down the road I’ll be able to visit during New Year’s and thus have a look at the wonderful object. Anyway, this year, the ball has 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs and 2,668 Waterford crystals. Isn’t that just awesome? The ball is 12 feet wide and weighs 11,875 pounds. How about another cool fact? The ball uses 20% less energy than the one last year and can produce a combination of 16 million colors and billions of different patterns. It must be true! I’ve seen only a couple of patterns on the screen, but so far none of them have been repeated and the colors are truly amazing. Just something interesting for the New Years. Enjoy!
