FBI Gets Social

The FBI (yes folks, that’s right, the Federal Bureau of Investigation) is getting social on the web. Don’t ask me why or what they’re going to do, but it is an interesting concept. Coincidentally, I did my 8th grade term paper on the FBI, CIA, and NSA. How cool is that? Either way, I’m no expert. That was years ago and on a totally different topic, might I add. It’s clear that social networks are taking the web by storm. Remember the project using Twitter to post mug shots? I have to say, that site is completely and utterly AMAZING. You can find the unofficial Denton Police’s Twitter here. Here is the project page and description. The concept is fantabulous, given that it’s been done a couple of times. It’s both hilarious and at the same time a work of art. That’s what the revolving theme behind the Police Mugshot project was. That just goes to show you the presence of law enforcement and government agencies on social networks. You can already find tons of law enforcement agencies on Twitter, many of whom the FBI is “following”. How about the San Francisco Police Department, Dallas PD and UCSD Police Department?

The latest is that the FBI has now got a twitter, which you can find here. They also have implemented a Facebook and YouTube profile. The only thing they seem to be missing is that Myspace profile. No offense, but who still uses that thing? Looks like if you want to keep updated with all the news on the crooks, you should follow the FBI on those social networks. I for one am following them on both Twitter and Facebook. I wonder what they’ll talk about. Are they going to be putting up bulletins on their manhunts and keep us up to date on their progress catching the most wanted criminals? That seems to be the case. In any event, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the FBI updates on Twitter and Facebook. It’s not every day you get to be all buddy buddy with the feds. Leave your comments on this issue below.
