TokBox

This post was inspired courtesy of my friend, who’s Xanga I happen to enjoy reading. If you want to check her out (by that I mean her updates) click here. She recently mentioned that she had a TokBox account that she made a long time ago. Thinking back, I also realized that I made a TokBox account while it was still in beta. I do that a lot, make accounts when services are in beta, only to forget about them after some time. The only service that is an exception is Hulu, which I still love dearly. I digress. Back when I made my TokBox account, it was nothing more than a way to send video emails. Now, it’s evolved into something more. Let’s talk about it, shall we? For those of you who don’t know what TokBox is, you’re in for a treat. Here is TokBox simplified:
Tokbox is an application, with competitors like Skype and Seesmic. The awesome thing about Tokbox? You don’t have to download any application of any kind. Everything is managed in your browser. However, if you do like to have things on your browser, you can always get their Adobe Air application for your desktop. Works just the same. What are the awesome features I’m so psyched about? As follows:
- You don’t have to register to chat with unregistered users. Setting up chats is easy. In other words – simple, easy, elegant, efficient.
- Simple interface for controls with respect to recording video: volume, muting, camera off, etc.
- Detects your camera settings and hardware: so it’s pain-free for communicating with the grandparents.
- Social network features so you can add friends you chat with all the time.
- You can send greeting cards and personalized video messages straight to email.
- Connect with Facebook and embed it on almost any platform or website.
- You have the ultimate say in privacy features: limit who sees your profile or can contact you.
- Aesthetically, it’s awesome and very web 2.0: anyone can use it.
- It’s taking over the Internet by storm. TokBox is the system Digsby uses for it’s video chats.
- Connect your IM accounts : AIM, MSN, Yahoo, GTalk. It’s as simple as can be.
- Access your video messages in a flash, with an easy sidebar. Oh, did I mention you can have large conference calls too?
- You can even conference call and watch YouTube videos or have slideshows with people. Talk about movie time!
- It’s fun! So why don’t you head over to TokBox and register today?
If you’d like to connect to me and leave me a message, feel free. I’d love to hear what you have to say. http://www.tokbox.com/415vince is the way to go. Have fun calling, conferencing, IM-ing, and just pure having tons of fun!
Alright, follow-up. Here is a screenshot of the web browser interface.
Here is a screenshot of the Air application released by TokBox. Stay connected and logged in so you won’t ever miss a conference call, video message, or instant message. Even though there is reduced functionality, it’s what you pay for today’s interconnectedness. Go Tokbox!
