Music Playlist for April 22, 2009: Earth Day!
Today is April 21st, 2009 and I am hastily putting a music post together because I have to get outside and celebrate the festivities. Hope you are enjoying Earth Day, too! Remember in my previous music post that I wrote about blip.fm? This week I’ve discovered a new site where I can share my playlists. It’s not a social music discovery engine like blip.fm, but it allows me to drag and drop music to form a playlist, which I can then share with you all. Oh, and if you haven’t already checked Drop.io out, you definitely should. It doesn’t have to be music either. You can drag and drop just about anything into a “drop”.
I’m going to do an Earth Day playlist today, but before I do that, I’ll give you the drop for my currently playing list. It’s a kind of mash-up of songs from my previous playlists. Hope you enjoy. Here is the link: http://drop.io/April2109list Now onto our Earth Day list.
1) Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) – Marvin Gaye: About air and marine pollution, radiation, and the state of the world because of man. “Oh, mercy mercy me, Oh, things ain’t what they used to be. No, no, Where did all the blue sky go? Poison is the wind that blows.”
2) Nature’s Way – Spirit: “It’s nature’s way of telling you something’s wrong. It’s nature’s way of telling you in a song. It’s nature’s way of receiving you.”
3) If A Tree Falls In The Forest – Bruce Cockburn: A song about the rain forest, pollution, climate control, and thinning ozone. “Through thinning ozone, waves fall on wrinkled earth. Gravity, light, ancient refuse of stars, Speak of a drowning, But this, this is something other.”
4) Earth Song – Michael Jackson: “What about sunrise, What about rain, What about all the things, That you said we were to gain.”
5) What A Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong: “I see trees of green, red roses too, I see ‘em bloom, for me and for you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.”
6) Earth Day, Every Day – John Denver: “Celebrate morning, the cry of a loon on a lake in the night. The dreams that are born in a dawn’s early light, celebrate morning.”
7) One Sweet World – Dave Matthews: “Nine planets round the sun, only one does the sun embrace. upon this watered one, so much we take for granted. So let us sleep outside tonight, lay down in our mother’s arms.”
