Earth Hour News
Alright, I’m currently in San Francisco, where Earth Hour has not yet struck. It will be upon me in about an hour and a half, give or take. For those of you who don’t know what Earth Hour is, I highly advise you check it out ASAP, so you don’t miss it for wherever you are. I should have done this post yesterday, but I ran out of time before I succumbed to my droopy eyes and dreamland. I mean who can resist dreamland? I know I can’t!
So, some interesting news is that the symbol of America, otherwise known as the McDonald’s Golden Arches, or at least some of them, will be dimmed for Earth Hour. All in all, about 1.5% of their locations will DIM their Arches for Earth Hour. I don’t get it. Why can’t those 1.5% of their locations actually turn it off? Or maybe just have more locations dim them? That would make so much more sense, but at least they’re trying. It’s either their really lame attempt at it, or they just want to be a part of it so they get more hamburgers sold. Who knows? Alright, here is something else: A video of the Water Cube in Beijing going lights out for Earth Hour. It’s pretty spectacular. All in all, a whole bunch of landmarks are going dark for it. Awesome!
Next up is a list of things that you can do during Earth Hour. I know you might not want to party or do ANYTHING while it’s lights out, but who knows. This is just what you MAY do. I’m not ordering you to do it, but I still think it’s a cool idea to have an Earth Hour party! Here we go with the list:
1) Go Star-Staring: I know, the proper term is probably star-gazing or star-watching, but I prefer to refer to it as star-STARING. It sounds creepier that way. Yeah, this is a nice escape from the lights and if you can, get as far away from the city as you can. It’s also nice to take your significant other out at night and stare at the stars because the sunset is kind of over-rated. I remember taking my ex to look at sunsets. It’s boring going alone; trust me.
2) Take a night stroll: If you’re by yourself, it is perfectly alright to take a night stroll though. It feels just fine and it even gives you a chance to work out your problems. The moon is actually pretty damn bright if you think about it. Take in some of that fresh air! Feel free to bring your lover too, it’ll be a romantic evening: GO EARTH HOUR!
3) FUCK: Really, pardon the language. This is what people do when it’s dark. It’s instinctual and it happens all the time. I mean feel free to get friendly. There are no rules about that..well there are a couple of laws, but yes. It turns out, through a couple of studies, that mini baby booms happen during blackouts, especially rolling blackouts. Cool fact. Oh be safe if you choose this option. Use condoms. A night stroll and star-gazing might also lead to this outcome, be ready.
4) Candle-light dinner: Not really ready for the F-word yet? Well how about a romantic candle-light dinner? Earth Hour is about turning off the lights and not unplugging your appliances, so go ahead and cook a nice meal for that person who is so important to you. Set out some candles, pop some champagne and get to know one another.
5) Reflect: In other words, meditate. It’s an hour of complete darkness and if you want, you can also refrain from using any electrical appliances and think. Reflect, question the world and your actions and find yourself. I know that sounds like something everybody says, definitely a cliché, but do it. You might find something worth knowing.
6) Take a bubble bath: I’m not really a bubble bath guy, but this is something that you ladies and ladylike men can do. It’s supposed to relax you and help you focus. Go ahead, indulge.
7) Play Twister: Twister is a fun game period. It gets pretty exciting when it comes to playing in the dark. Need I say more? Invite some friends over for it. It’ll be a rockin Earth Hour.
8 ) Community: Go attend some free events that may be happening in your community, whether it be Earth Hour related, such as picnics and candlelight conventions, or just random events. Get out of your dark house and just have some fun!
9) BBQ: Have some friends over and cook some food. Have a good time. After all, it’s starting to warm up here in the West Coast.
10) Glow Stick Sports: Grab some glow-sticks and rock out! You can go play sports like basketball or go roller skating or biking with those sticks. What else? You can stuff them in your lingerie and have a glow-in-the-dark lingerie party. Yeehaw!
11) Anyone say PARTAAYYY?!?!?: Have a wild party. Anything goes party. Have a combination of the events from up above and invite as many people to one spot as possible and just have a Earth Hour party.
Whatever you happen to do for Earth Hour, have fun knowing that you’ve spoken through your actions and have made a difference. Remember to turn off all unnecessary lights! Enjoy!
