The Oakland Cop Shooting
By now, you’ve probably heard about the cop shootings that happened in Saturday. First off, I have to say that this is pretty damn tragic shit. Police officers are supposed to protect us and they have to deal with being shot at? Where is all the respect in this world? I’m amazed that I survived my childhood considering the fact that I pretty much lived in Oakland for about 1/3 of my life. Thankfully I was inside and on the second floor of a multi-story building. I was lucky enough to only have to hear the gunshots and the sirens of the emergency response back then. Alright, let me just get to the story and we’ll rant and what-not later:
On Saturday, three police officers were killed and a fourth police officer was placed on life support following separate shootings by a 26 year old parolee. I mean sure we’ve lost officers here in the state of California, but when do you ever lose so many at one time? Lovelle Mixon of Oakland fled after shooting two officers at what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop. When the SWAT team entered the building that he was hiding in, he then shot two more officers. In the end, Mixon was fatally shot by the police. Here is how it went down:
Sgt. Mark Dunakin and Officer John Hege were on motorcycles and stopped Mixon in a 1195 Buick sedan at around 1 PM. Mixon then opened fire, killing Dunakin and wounding Hege. Hege is currently on life support, while the decision is being made about organ donation. Mixon then fled on foot, leading to a manhunt. After two hours, police officers found him inside a nearby apartment building. When SWAT entered, Mixon opened fire, killing Sgt. Ervin Romans and Sgt. Daniel Sakai. It was a tragic day, with way too many deaths. Let’s have a moment of silence for the officers.
