Remember that post I made about the compressed air knife a couple of weeks ago? I found a video to go with it and a website where you can, I’m assuming, go and purchase it. It’s pretty sweet, especially for hunters. If you recall, the knife was made for hunters. In the video “WASP vs. watermelon”, a knife wielding man uses the knife and shows what happens when the gas enters the melon. Yes, you guessed it. It EXPLODES with a crack. Actually, it doesn’t really explode, it just cracks. Let’s see what happens, shall we? One problem I find, I’m guessing you have to reload, which means that you can only use it once and then you have to change the cartridge.

Well, I guess that’s it from me for now. I’m going away to New Jersey Coast Guard Boot camp. Will be back, tentatively September 13th or so. For now, keep yourself up to date on the news!
Here is a movie post. I know the Dark Knight is out, but I haven’t seen it yet. I do want to see it though, sometime. Maybe when I get back from boot camp. I really like the Batmobile and his cool cycle. After looking at some of the reviews, it sounds like it’s definitely worth going to. Also just released, a day early, is the trailer for Watchmen. Watch the trailer and see for yourself, here!

I’ve written about a couple of interesting and mighty attractive visual web engines such as a post about Viewzi and another post about Searchme. Today it’s another website that is specifically for videos and images. Pixsy powers image and video search, enabling users to find tons of private video content. Pixsy also powers sites such as Veoh and Comcast. I tried searching for content on the site and it was actually a very nice tool indeed. The site is very clean. There are some filters and some search categories that allow a user to quickly categorize and sort through the millions of images and videos available. It’s a great website and should be in everyone’s bookmarks. It’s especially useful when you need some multimedia and you never know when you might be needing one of these handy dandy search engines.

I just finished installing updates for this wordpress blog and also for Firefox. The new version of Firefox updated is now 3.0.1. It seems to be running pretty well right now, even though I rely more heavily on Flock. Anyway, the Wordpress update went pretty smoothly. I have never actually updated a wordpress blog before and so it was an experience. Either way, everything is updated!
We all know tap water is dirty, unclean, and undrinkable right? Actually, no. If you’re like me and live in San Francisco, you get your water from Hetch Hetchy. Does that sound familiar? If not, go look it up. That’s the water system where we get all of our water. The water from Hetch Hetchy is clean, crisp, and very refreshing. Most environmentally aware consumers know that drinking from the tap lowers your environmental impact when compared to always drinking bottled water. Bottled water has a huge environmental impact mainly because they are bottled. These bottles are plastic and do not biodegrade. Even though recycling is become more mainstream, it is more likely that the bottle will end up in the ocean somewhere. What about all that energy it takes to manufacture the bottles that the tap water is put in? Did you ever think about that? This is why, as a matter of fact, tap water has about 1% of the environmental impact that bottled water has. I always drink from the tap. I started this habit, oh I’d say about 4 years ago. I realized that our family ran though a huge amount of bottles. You can only reuse plastic bottles so many times before you have to toss them. If you really want to conserve, you should use reuseable bottles, like glass bottles. I discovered that VOSS bottled water comes in glass bottles and that they can be reused over and over again. All that you have to do is wash them in between and you have a great tap water storing vessel! I’m in love with my VOSS bottle and the tap water that I drink. Just by making the simple decision to stop drinking bottled water, you are saving the Earth. Even if you have to use a jug filter or a tap filter, it is still better than just buying bottles. I do have to say that in some places water really tastes nasty. For example, Davis water does not taste as good as San Francisco water. One solution is to come up with a way to spice up your tap water. For one, you’ll be living a more healthy lifestyle, drinking water and not all those sugary substances. Secondly, you won’t be needing all those bottle waters. Do something for the environment. Even though it’s a small thing, it still counts. Alone we’re not the sole problem. It doesn’t take one person driving a car to cause global warming. However, if a billion people drive cars, we have a problem.
Here it is, it is now official. The San Francisco Zoo has been signed over Athena, the Eurasian Eagle Owl. Visit the web page for video and and interview!
How does this sound to all of you who go to Davis? It sounds good to me. I mean in a town where the bicycle is the universal symbol, an exception should be made, don’t you think? It’s being debated and brought up as I type this blog. With increasing gas prices, more and more people, even in big busy cities such as San Francisco are turning to bicycles as a mean of reliable transportation. As of now, the law in California is that when you’re on a bike, you’re considered a vehicle and thus you must obey the rules of the road, including full stops at stop signs and stopping at red lights. There are those who are petitioning to change this law. They argue that it makes biking more appealing, which could increase the number of bikers out there. It is a pretty nice idea. I did get stopped up at Davis by the bike cop who warned me about the “rolling stop”, otherwise known as the “California stop”, since no one really comes to a complete stop unless there is a cop around, right? When I went to milk the cows my second quarter at 4:45 in the morning, there was a red stop light, but no one was around, so do I wait? What was I supposed to do? Wait till the light turned or just bike across, since there was no concievable danger? I guess you could say I broke the law. I crossed every single time. I don’t have the patience to wait. Anyway, this proposed change in the law would allow bikers to run stop signs if there are no cars in the intersections and they could also run a red light after looking both ways for any signs of danger. Many drivers are complaining about this change because they believe it will mess with the structure of traffic. It’s true it might be a little confusing to drivers, but it also makes a lot of sense if you think about it through the eyes of a biker. As both a biker and driver, I can see both sides of the dilemma. In a city like Davis where there are bikes paths just about everywhere, it is not as big as a problem compared with large busy cities like San Francisco. We’ll see what happens. Maybe a compromise will be worked out? I’m waiting for the news!
It has come to my attention that iTunes 7.7 is out now! It is now available as a software download from the Apple website. What’s new from the previous version of iTunes? For one, the stuff about a iTunes remote floating around is TRUE. It is a rumor no more. It has been confirmed that the new remote application allows users to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home or office using your iPhone or iPod Touch. It’s a pretty neat feature and I look forward to being able to test it. What else is new? The new iTunes also includes the newly released apps store which allows applications to be downloaded for the iPhone and the Touch with software version 2.0. Aha! Since we’re still on the same topic of apple-ness, I might as well also point out that the iPhone 3G is coming to the states in only a matter of hours. Am I going to get one? Eventually. Definitely not tomorrow, but eventually I’ll get one and test out this app store. For now I’ll just sit back and enjoy the new iTunes and have a look around.

You might be wondering what this is all about. Yes, you know you’re interested. How do you green your usage of toilet paper? The answer is actually so simple that you’ll punch yourself in the stomach since you didn’t think of it before. I don’t know, maybe you already did think of it or you’ve already been doing this for your whole life. I know I’ve already been doing it my whole life, but now I know the reason behind such a thing. Excellent. This is another article from Treehugger, and it turns out that if you roll your toilet paper under, it is actually, statistically speaking wasteful. I know some of a you have also attempted the one hand tear before. Thel likelihood that the roll will keep rolling is dramatically increased, while the wrap over will prevent the spindle from spinning over and over again, which means saving paper? Never thought you’d hear about this poo-poo paper saving money and trees eh?
